Contact Lens Care & Safety Guide

Proper handling and care of contact lenses are essential for safe and comfortable wear. Please read and follow these instructions carefully before using your lenses.

General Instructions for Safe Use

  • Use contact lenses only if the blister pack or packaging is sealed and undamaged.
  • Wash and dry your hands thoroughly before touching your lenses.
  • Handle lenses over a clean, flat surface to prevent damage if dropped.
  • Always use your fingertips when handling lenses and avoid contact with fingernails.
  • Contact lenses are personal medical devices and should never be shared with another person.
  • Consult your eye care professional before using any eye drops or medications while wearing contact lenses.
  • Unless specifically indicated otherwise, do not sleep while wearing contact lenses.
  • Do not exceed the recommended wearing time for your lenses.
  • Driving while wearing contact lenses is not recommended if vision becomes unstable or uncomfortable.
  • Before first use, soak the lenses in fresh multipurpose solution intended for soft contact lenses for at least 2 hours.
  • Avoid wearing lenses in environments with smoke, dust, harmful fumes, excessive dryness, or strong air conditioning.
  • Never use contact lenses after their expiration date.
  • Sclera lenses are intended primarily for occasional wear. For comfort and safety, we recommend limiting wear time to a maximum of 3 hours at a time.

When to Remove Your Contact Lenses

Remove your lenses immediately if you experience any of the following symptoms:

  • Burning or stinging
  • Redness or irritation
  • Excessive tearing
  • Dryness
  • Light sensitivity
  • Blurred or changing vision
  • A foreign body sensation
  • Halos or glare around lights
  • Persistent discomfort while wearing lenses

If symptoms continue after lens removal, seek advice from an eye care professional.

Before Inserting Contact Lenses

Before placing a lens on your eye, make sure it is:

  • Clean and properly hydrated
  • Clear and free of deposits
  • Undamaged, without tears or cracks

Never wear a lens that is torn, scratched, damaged, or visibly contaminated. Replace it immediately with a new lens.

Check whether the lens is inside out. A correctly shaped lens forms a smooth bowl with edges pointing upward. If the edges flare outward, the lens is inside out and may cause discomfort when worn.

How to Insert Contact Lenses

  1. Place the lens on the tip of your index finger.
  2. Use the middle finger of the same hand to pull down the lower eyelid.
  3. With your other hand, gently hold the upper eyelid open.
  4. Carefully place the lens directly onto the eye.
  5. Slowly release your eyelids and blink several times until the lens settles into position.

For best results, insert contact lenses before applying makeup and remove them before taking makeup off.

How to Remove Contact Lenses

  1. Hold your eyelids open as you would during insertion.
  2. Look upward and gently slide the lens downward onto the white part of the eye.
  3. Carefully pinch the lens between your thumb and index finger and remove it.

If a lens becomes dry or adheres to the eye, apply lubricating drops suitable for contact lens wearers and wait until the lens moves freely before attempting removal.

Cleaning and Storing Contact Lenses

Proper cleaning helps maintain lens comfort and eye health.

  1. Empty your lens case and rinse both compartments with fresh contact lens solution.
  2. Fill the case with new solution.
  3. Place the lens in your palm and apply several drops of solution.
  4. Gently rub the lens with your fingertip to remove deposits.
  5. Rinse thoroughly with fresh solution.
  6. Place the lens in the case and ensure it is fully immersed.
  7. Repeat the process for the second lens.
  8. Leave the lenses in solution for at least 6 hours before wearing them again.

After each use:

  • Discard any remaining solution from the case.
  • Rinse the case with fresh solution.
  • Allow the case to air dry completely before closing it.
  • Replace your lens case regularly.

Never use tap water, saliva, or any non-sterile liquid to clean or store contact lenses. Only use solutions specifically designed for contact lens care.

If lenses are not worn regularly, store them in fresh solution and replace the solution approximately once per week.

Contraindications

Contact lenses should not be worn under the following circumstances:

  • Allergy or sensitivity to contact lens materials or care solutions
  • Eye infections, inflammations, or injuries
  • Use of topical eye medications unless approved by an eye care professional
  • Excessively sensitive eyes
  • Dry eye syndrome
  • Disorders affecting the tear film
  • Skin conditions around the eyes
  • Glaucoma
  • Diabetes or certain systemic conditions
  • Unsuitable work or environmental conditions

Temporary changes caused by colds, allergies, pregnancy, hormonal fluctuations, or contraceptive use may affect lens tolerance.

Cosmetics such as creams, lotions, makeup, soaps, deodorants, and hair sprays may contaminate lenses and lead to irritation.

Important Safety Information

Contact lenses should only be worn according to the recommended schedule and care instructions. Failure to maintain proper hygiene or attend regular eye examinations may increase the risk of complications.

Regular eye examinations by an eye care professional are recommended, even if no discomfort occurs.

Contact lenses may not be suitable for individuals who are unable to follow handling instructions due to age, physical limitations, medical conditions, or environmental factors.

Avoid wearing contact lenses while swimming or participating in water sports unless protective goggles are used.
